Meet Shanai Dunmore

Born and raised in Baltimore City, Shanai Dunmore is one of many examples illustrating the potential that every child in Baltimore possesses’ – if given the right opportunities to succeed. After graduating from Baltimore City Public Schools, Shanai received her Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from the Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville. Shortly thereafter, Shanai continued her college education at the University of Baltimore. It is while studying at UB that she discovered her passion for justice and equal opportunity. 

While earning her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, Shanai was inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success—an early reflection of her drive and determination. She worked tirelessly to excel in the classroom but understood that a degree alone would not define her success. Instead, she committed herself to discipline, growth, and a lifelong dedication to service.

As a proud Democrat, Shanai believes in the power of strong Democratic leadership at the state and federal levels—and knows that at every level of government, we need leaders who are courageous, compassionate, and fully committed to the people they serve.

She will bring that same passion and compassion to the Register of Wills office—modernizing record-keeping, improving service, and using her voice beyond the office to advocate for resources and opportunities that help Baltimore families thrive.

Experienced

The Register of Wills must understand not only the day-to-day demands of probate and estate administration, but also how to lead, modernize, and strengthen the office. As former Chief Deputy of the Baltimore City Register of Wills Office, Shanai did exactly that—overseeing critical operations, supervising dozens of employees, and managing key departments including probate, auditing, court operations, and record-keeping to ensure families received efficient and reliable service.

As a single mother to her daughter, Chloe’, Shanai knows the true meaning of responsibility, service, and community. That lived experience drives her commitment to accountability, transparency, and putting people first. As Register of Wills, Shanai will deliver more efficient probate processes, modernize record-keeping, and ensure every resident is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. She is committed to transforming the office into one that Baltimore families can rely on—where service is not just expected but felt.
