As a native Baltimorean, Shanai Dunmore is a fierce advocate seeking to become Register of Wills for Baltimore City. 

As a graduate of both Baltimore City Public Schools and the University of Baltimore, Shanai understands firsthand what makes our city special and recognizes the essential role the Register of Wills office plays in supporting Baltimore families – and the challenges that come with it. Shanai, however, sees those challenges as opportunities to heal Baltimore, and make it a more equitable, safe and prosperous place for all people.

It’s why she decided to run.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Shanai launched her career as a City Council Assistant, where she quickly distinguished herself through her dedication to public service and results-driven leadership. Guided by an unshakable work ethic and a deep commitment to serving others, she rose through the ranks to become Chief Deputy of the Baltimore City Register of Wills Office.

As the former Chief Deputy, Shanai oversaw complex probate proceedings, led and trained staff, and managed critical operations including the Record Room and Fiscal Administration—ensuring efficiency, accountability, and service to Baltimore families during some of life’s most difficult moments.

In addition, to her public service, Shanai is a licensed real estate agent with Monument Sotheby’s International Realty, bringing a unique, hands-on understanding of property, estate matters, and the real-life needs of the community she serves.

Shanai sees this moment as an opportunity to modernize the Register of Wills office by improving probate processing standards, eliminating outdated record-keeping systems, and enhancing customer service for families navigating estate matters. She is committed to educating Baltimore residents on the vital role of the Register of Wills office, while working with legal aid organizations and pro bono attorneys to expand access to guidance and support. Shanai will also partner with City and State lawmakers to ensure equitable and efficient estate administration services.

Shanai is what we need from our Register of Wills– compassionate, experienced and community-focused. Having been in public service since 2005, Shanai is ready to lead the charge to a more efficient and customer friendly Register of Wills office. She looks forward to bringing her attention to detail and unrivaled experience to the office of Register of Wills for Baltimore City.
